Master Bedroom Part One: Strip out and Electrics

The next room on the agenda is the master bedroom, it wasn't in bad nick by a long shot, but we just wanted to freshen it up a bit. Oh, and build floor to ceiling wardrobe.

Here are a couple of before shots of the Bedroom:

The plan is:

  • Strip out pretty much everything
  • Install new powerpoints around entire room
  • Build floor to ceiling wardrobe with sliding doors
  • Remove old vent from wall and plaster where needed
  • Fit new skirting and architrave
  • Lining paper the walls and ceiling
  • Make new loft hatch
  • Paint walls and ceiling
  • Install new carpet

We started by stripping the wall that had the feature wallpaper on it to discover it had previously been painted a lovely shade of brown.

Good old Dad popped down again for the weekend to help me out with the electrics and wardrobe build.

The original (and only) power socket in the room needed to be moved as it would be inside the wardrobe when it was built. We took up the floorboard to check out the wiring and decide how best to run cabling for the other two we wanted to add.

We then cut out for the back boxes of the new sockets.

Once we had the wiring done we took off the old air vent. Mmmm nice!

We then filled the vent and plastered over the wall the next day to cover and level a dip in the wall out:
